How to replace a burnt out cargo area light bulb in a 2nd generation 2008 to 2012 Jeep Liberty SUV with pictures.

This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 2nd generation 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 Jeep Liberty in replacing a burnt out overhead cargo area light bulb.

Owners of similar Jeep, Dodge or Chrysler vehicles such as the Cherokee, Compass, Patriot, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Grand Caravan, Nitro, Durango, Journey, and the Town & Country minivan may also find these instructions to be helpful.

A replacement cargo area light bulb is part # 214-2 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, and Lumapro.

You may also choose to replace them with brighter 42mm or 41mm Festoon style LED bulbs.

The only tool needed to replace the cargo area light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry open the lens cover.

Pull Out Old # 214-2 Bulb
Insert the blade of the flathead screwdriver into the notch at the middle right (driver side) of the cargo area light bulb housing.

Gently pry out the lens cover and swing it open to the left.

Carefully pull out the old # 214-2 festoon style bulb straight out of the socket with your thumb and forefinger.

Push In New # 214-2 Bulb

New Bulb Installed
Push a new # 214-2 bulb straight into the cargo area light socket.

If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, it might be "polarized". So just flip it around 180 degrees in the socket.

Open Door - Test Bulb
Swing the translucent lens cover closed to the right and gently snap the tab into place.

Test the new cargo area light bulb by opening a passenger door or the rear tailgate door.
