This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006) GM Chevrolet Tahoe SUV in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other General Motors GMT800 series SUV or truck vehicles such as the Chevy Silverado, Suburban, Avalanche, GMC Yukon, Sierra, Hummer H2 and the Cadillac Escalade may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM vanity mirror light bulb had HTU-14V0.1A part number etched on the side.

A replacement vanity mirror light bulb is part # 13502343 from ACDelco. Other compatible miniature "fuse" type bulbs include the # 6614F and TS-14V1CP or a compatible LED bulb.

The only tool needed to change the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the plastic lens cover.

Lens Cover Removed
Flip open the mirror cover to access the two vanity mirror light housings.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Gently pry out the translucent plastic lens cover with the small flathead screwdriver.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Old Bulb Removed
If the old bulb was recently turned on, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Carefully pry out the lower metal end cap on the old bulb with the small flathead screwdriver.

Do not apply pressure to the glass part of the old bulb to prevent from having it shatter and send glass shards in to your face.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.

Push In New Bulb

Gently Pop In Lens Cover
Push a new ACDelco 13502343 or a # TS-14V1CP bulb straight in to the socket.

If you would like to have brighter vanity mirror lights, install some compatible vanity mirror LED bulbs.

The new bulb should light up immediately.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try removing it, rotating it 180 degrees and re-installing it. Some LED bulbs are polarized and will only work when the + positive and - negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.
