This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the sixth generation "B16" (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012) Nissan Sentra sedan in cleaning or changing the engine air filter element in the MR20DE 2.0 liter inline four cylinder motor.

Owners of other Nissan vehicles such as the Versa, Cube, Altima, Maxima, Leaf, Pathfinder, 370Z, Juke, Rogue, Xterra, Murano and Quest may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement air filters for the 2.0L engine with their part numbers include the following: Wix # 49000, Fram CA10346, K&N 33-2376, Hastings AF1335, Pentius PAB10346, Purolator A45701, Beck Arnley 042-1734, Mahle LX 2587, Premium Guard PA5701 and Mann Filter MA 1183.

No tools are needed to replace the filter. A wet/dry shop vacuum can be useful for cleaning the existing OEM element.

Pull Old Filter Out of Tray
The engine air box is located at the right rear area of the engine bay just behind the 12V battery on the driver's side.

Release the two metal latches on the top of the air box flipping them up and towards the front of the car.

Slide the plastic filter tray straight out of the top of the air box.

Pull the old filter out of the plastic filter tray.

Inspect both sides of the old filter.

If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out any large debris and remove any fine dust with a shop vacuum before re-installing it.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, leaves, insects, twigs, hair and pollen, it should be replaced with a new element.

I'd recommend using the Fram CA10346 engine air filter since it has the best reviews on Amazon.

If you'd like to have a washable and re-usable filter, buy the K&N 33-2376 engine air filter.

Snap Closed Metal Latches
Install the new filter with the pleats facing down in to the plastic tray and the rubber gasket facing up towards you.

Carefully slide the filter tray in to the air box with the rubber gasket facing towards the rear of the vehicle.

Flip the two metal latches up and snap them over the rear half of the air box to secure the tray in place.

Be sure to record the filter change in your vehicle's service records.
