This automotive maintenance "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the 7th generation (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012) General Motors Chevrolet Malibu in replacing a burnt out overhead dome light bulb.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Cruze, Sonic, Volt, Impala, Corvette, Camaro, Tahoe, Colorado, Equinox, Traverse, Buick Regal, Enclave, LaCrosse, GMC Acadia, Terrain, Yukon, Cadillac CTS, ATS, XTS, Escalade, Pontiac Grand Prix, Grand Am, G6, G5, G8, Oldsmobile Alero, Silhouette, Bravada, Aurora, and Intrigue may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement dome light bulb is part # 561 from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE and ACDelco.

I recommend the Sylvania 561 Long Life light bulbs.

The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent dome light lens cover.

Insert the blade of the flathead screwdriver into one of the notches in between the lens cover and the dome light housing near the front of the vehicle.

Gently pry out the lens cover. If you have trouble removing the lens cover, remove and re-insert the blade of the screwdriver at several points around the lens cover.

Place one loop of the new # 561 bulb over a power prong and then pull the other loop over the other power prong to install the bulb.

If you would like to have a brighter dome light, install a compatible replacement 561 LED bulb.

Test the new dome light bulb by pressing the unlock button on the key fob or open the car door.
