Gently Pry Out Lens Cover
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the ninth generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and maybe also the 2016) Honda Civic in changing a burnt out dome light bulb in the headliner above the rear passenger seats.

Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement dome light bulb is part number 168 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

You may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, W5W, 2825, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover.

Pull Out Old Bulb
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to one of the two notches on the rear edge of the translucent plastic lens cover.

Gently pry out the lens cover.

You may need to re-insert the screwdriver in to the other notch and pry again to pop out the lens cover.

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.
