This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the ninth generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and maybe
also the 2016) Honda Civic in changing a burnt out high mount third
brake light bulb. Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement bulb is part number 7440 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, PIAA and Wagner. You may also choose to install a brighter compatible 7440 LED bulb. No tools are needed to change the bulb. |

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Remove Bulb Socket |
Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
The first step is
to open the trunk lid. Locate the light grey bulb socket on the ceiling of the trunk just below the 3rd brake light housing. Rotate the socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 7440 bulb. I'd recommend buying the Sylvania 7440 LL long life light bulbs since they tend to last a very long time. |

Push In New # 7440 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Test New Brake Light Bulb |
Re-insert the bulb
socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in
place. Test the new bulb by having someone step on the brake pedal. For more, check out my other
