Pry Out Plastic Lens Cover
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the ninth generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & possibly also the 2016) Honda Civic in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement bulb is part number 168 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

You may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, W5W, 2825, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

The only tool needed to change the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a small plastic pry bar tool used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may want to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Carefully insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the lens cover and the overhead console.

Gently pry out the lens cover and set it aside in a safe place.

If the old bulb was recently turned on, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.
