This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the ninth generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and maybe
also the 2016) Honda Civic in changing a burnt out trunk light bulb. Owners of other Honda or Acura vehicles such as the Accord, Crosstour, CR-V, CR-Z, Fit, Insight, Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline, ILX, TSX, TLX, TL, RLX, RDX and MDX may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement bulb is part number 168 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko, PIAA and Wagner. You may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, W5W, 2825, 194 or a brighter LED unit. The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |
Old # 168 Bulb Removed |
The first step is
to insert the blade of your small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on
the right (passenger) side of the housing. Gently pry out the light housing and remove it from the ceiling of the trunk. Press the release tab on the electrical connector and slide the plug straight out of the socket. If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket. |

Empty Bulb Socket |
Push In New # 168 Bulb |
Push In Power Plug |

Push the new #
168 bulb straight in to the socket. If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158 (dimmer), W5W, 2825, 194 or a compatible LED unit. Push the power plug straight in to the socket. |
||
Re-Insert Wires First |
Pop In Light Housing |
Test New Trunk Light Bulb |
Re-insert the wires
on the left (driver) side of the housing in first and then gently pop in the
other edge. If the new bulb didn't immediately light up when you re-attached the power plug, open and close the trunk or press the "Unlock" button on the key fob. For more, check out my other
