Tail Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out brake, rear
turn signal or reverse light bulb in a 2015, 2016 or 2017 Chrysler 200 sedan.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the second generation 2015, 2016 and 2017 Chrysler 200
sedan in changing a burnt out brake, rear turn signal or reverse
bulb in the tail light housings. Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM or Fiat vehicles such as the 300, Pacifica, Town & Country, Avenger, Charger, Challenger, Journey, Dart, Durango, Magnum, Grand Caravan, Fiat 500, Fiat 124 Spider, Grand Cherokee, Renegade, Wrangler, Compass, Liberty, Patriot, ProMaster, 1500 and C/V Tradesman minivan may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Brake / Rear Turn Signal # 7440 (or W21W) and Reverse # 921 (or W16W). The tools needed to access and replace the tail light bulbs include a plastic pry bar tool, a 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet. |

The first two steps
are to open the trunk lid and then move to the side of the car with the
burnt out tail light bulb. Use the plastic pry bar tool to gently remove the black plastic trim cover on the inner edge of the tail light housing. |

Remove Plastic Trim Cover |
Loosen Counterclockwise |
10mm Bolt Removed |
Pull off the
plastic trim piece and set it aside in a safe place. Then loosen the two bolts on the inner edge of the tail light housing by turning them counterclockwise with a 10mm socket and a 1/4" drive ratchet. |

Set the two bolts aside in a safe place. | ||
Pull Off Tail Light Housing |
Bulb Sockets Exposed |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Gently pull the
tail light assembly straight off the rear corner of the vehicle. Turn over the tail light housing to access the bulb socket. Rotate the large yellow / tan plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Push In New Light Bulb |
Carefully pull the
old brake / rear turn signal light bulb straight out of the socket. If you have trouble removing the bulb, try gently wiggling it back and forth while pulling. Push a new number 7440 light bulb straight in to the socket. |

1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |

Push On Tail Light Housing |
Re-insert the bulb
socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in
place. Line up the two black metal pegs or "spikes" on the rear edge of the tail light housing with their corresponding plastic grommets on the rear corner of the sedan. Push the tail light housing straight on to the car. |

Replace Two Bolts |

Pop Rivets - Trim Cover |
Re-insert the two
bolts and tighten them in the clockwise direction with the 10mm socket and a
1/4" drive ratchet. Try to avoid over tightening the two bolts to prevent from cracking the plastic inner edge of the housing. Line up the two pop rivets on the back side of the trim panel with the inner edge of the tail light housing. |

Pop the trim panel
back in to place. The reverse light bulb is located in a separate housing attached to the trunk lid. Locate the plastic rectangular shaped cover near the center of the carpeted trunk lid liner. Gently pull out the plastic piece. |

1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Gently pull back
the grey carpet trunk lid cover to release the plastic pop rivet friction
fasteners. Locate the grey plastic reverse light bulb socket. Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Push In New Light Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Pull the old light
bulb straight out of the socket. Push a new number 921 light bulb straight in to the socket. If you would like to have brighter reverse lights, install a compatible 921 LED light bulb. Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Line up the plastic
pop rivets and firmly push them back in to place. Push the rectangular plastic trim piece back in to place at the center of the trunk lid liner. Close the trunk lid to complete the job. To test the new light bulbs, have an assistant step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard signals and shift the transmission in to reverse.
