Gently Pry Out Housing
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) GM Buick LaCrosse sedan in changing a burnt out license plate light bulb in the trunk lid.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, Malibu, Spark, Sonic, Cruze, Volt, SS, Camaro, Caprice, Corvette, Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado, Silverado, Buick Verano, Regal, Cascada, Encore, Enclave, Envision, GMC Canyon, Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, Cadillac CT6, ATS-V, ATS, ELR, CTS, XTS, XT5, SRX, Escalade and Holden Commodore may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement light bulb is part number 2825.

You could also use a brighter LED unit.

The only tool needed to access and replace the license plate light bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver.

Use the flathead screwdriver to gently pry out the light housing.

Even though the plastic retaining clip is on the outer edge of the right side light housing, I had better luck prying out the housing on the left side.

So if you have trouble removing the light housing by prying on one side, try prying on the other side.

Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing.

Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

Push a new # 2825 bulb straight in to the socket.

If necessary, you can also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the number 168, 158, W5W, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

First re-insert the wires in to the left side of the opening in the trunk lid.

Then gently snap in the retaining clip on the outer (right) side of the housing.
