the Moon - Taupo, North Island, New Zealand
Pictures, a video clip and visitor info
from a trip to the Craters of the Moon Geothermal Walk near Lake Taupo, NZ.
Craters of
the Moon is a geothermal attraction located just north of Taupo on
the North Island of New Zealand
which features wooden walkways that traverse past steam vents,
craters, fumaroles and bubbling mudpools. To reach Craters of the Moon from the town of Taupo, travel 5.5 kilometers north on Wairakei Drive and turn left (east) on Karapiti Road. Then continue almost 2 kms until you see the sign and parking lot for Craters of the Moon. The attraction is open every day of the year from 8:30 AM to 5:30 or 6 PM depending on daylight savings. Admission is $6 NZD per adult, $2.50 NZD per child (5-12 years of age) and free for kids under 5 years of age. Families with 2 adults and up to 4 children pay just $14.50 for admission. |
