This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the updated (2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) Dodge Avenger
sedan in changing the windshield window wiper blades. Owners of other Chrysler Group vehicles such as the Dart, Challenger, Durango, Charger, Grand Caravan, 200, 300, RAM C/V Tradesman, Jeep Patriot, Compass and Cherokee may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement wiper blades sizes in inches are as follows: Driver Side 24" and Passenger Side 22". A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Bosch 24A & Bosch 22B, Rain-X 5079280-1 & Rain-X 5079279-1, Michelin 8024 & Michelin 8022, Bosch 4824 & Bosch 4822, Valeo 900241B & Valeo 900221B and Anco 31-24 & Anco 31-22. The only tool needed to replace the blades is a flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. You may also use a car key, coin, nail file, a butter knife or any similar item. |

Pry Open Locking Tab |
Lock Tab Released |
Rotate Blade Away |
The first step is
to raise the wiper arm off the windshield until it stays in the up position
by itself.
Then gently pry out the black plastic locking tab on the outside of the old wiper blade's mounting bracket with a flathead screwdriver. Swing the locking tab out until it is perpendicular with the wiper blade. |
||
Black Plastic Release Tab |
Press In Release Tab |
Slide Old Blade Down |
Rotate the wiper
blade away from the metal wiper arm at a slight angle.
Press the small black plastic release tab on the wiper blade mounting bracket down towards the metal wiper arm. Slide the old wiper blade down and off the metal hook at the end of the wiper arm. |

||
Rotate Blade Perpendicular |
Pull Blade Off Metal Hook |
Towel To Protect Glass |
Rotate the old
wiper blade until it is perpendicular with the metal arm and pull it off. Place a towel on the window to protect the glass from being chipped or cracked just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on to the windshield. I'd recommend buying the Bosch 24A and Bosch 22B wiper blades since they have excellent reviews on Amazon. |

Line Up New Blade & Hook |
Slide Bracket On Metal Hook |
Pull Blade Up On Hook |
Line up the
mounting bracket in the center of the new wiper blade with the metal hook at
the end of the wiper arm. Slide the mounting bracket up in to the metal hook until it clicks securely in to place. |
||
Snap Closed Lock Tab |
New Blade Installed |
Lower Arm To Windshield |
Swing the lock tab
down and snap it back in to place. Double check that the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm. Lower the wiper arm down to the windshield. For the best wiper performance, I'd recommend thoroughly cleaning off the windshield and applying a window treatment product such as Zaino Bros Glass Polish or Rain-X. For more, check out my other
