Two Lights In Tailgate

The newer 2014 and 2015 Durango models are equipped with LED license plate light bulbs that should last the life time of the vehicle.

This tutorial was created with a 2014 Durango, but the procedure for changing a burnt out standard incandescent license plate light bulb in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 model years should be the same. The replacement part number is 168.

If you would like to have brighter lights, install some compatible 168 LED bulbs.

Remove Bulb Socket
Rotate the base of the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it from the housing.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 168, 2825 or W5W bulb.

Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Re-insert the light housing in to the opening in the tailgate door.

To test the new license plate light bulbs, turn on the headlights.
