This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & also 2016 in Canada) Dodge Durango SUV in cleaning or changing the engine air filter element in the Pentastar 3.6 liter V6 motor.

Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge, RAM, Volkswagen, Lancia or Fiat vehicles equipped with the Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine such as the Avenger, Challenger, Durango, Grand Caravan, Journey, Grand Cherokee, 200, 300, Town & Country, Routan, Freemont, Wrangler, Voyager, Thema, 1500 and ProMaster may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A few compatible replacement filters with their part numbers are as follows: Fram CA10755, K&N 33-2457, Pentius PAB10755, Mahle Original LX 3230, AEM 28-20457, Wix # 49756, Purolator A36116, Premium Guard PA6116, Hastings AF1453, Luber-finer AF5190, Ecogard XA6116 and GKI AF10755.

No tools are needed to replace the filter.

Lift Open Air Box Cover
The engine air box is located at the front right side of the engine bay just behind the yellow cap on the windshield washer fluid filler tube.

Flip down the two metal latches on the right side of the engine air box to release them.

Lift the top half of the air box to access the old filter.

Inspect Both Sides
Pull the old engine filter out of the bottom half of the air box.

Inspect both sides of the old filter.

If the old filter looks relatively clean, tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum.

If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with debris such as dirt, dust, hair, insects, leaves, twigs and pollen, it should be replaced with a new element.

I recommend buying the Fram CA10755 engine air filter since it has excellent reviews on Amazon.

Slide the two tabs on the left side of the air box cover in to the slots on the bottom half of the box.

Flip the two metal latches up and over the top half of the air box to secure it in place.

Make sure that the two halves of the air box are flush together with no parts of the new filter visible.
