Gently Pry Out Lens Cover
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the revised first generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011) GM Chevrolet Aveo in changing a burnt out dome (A.KA. "map") light bulb in the headliner.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Cascada, Encore, Enclave, Envision, GMC Canyon, Sierra 1500, Terrain, Yukon, Denali, Savana, Spark, Sonic, Cruze, Malibu, Impala, Volt, Camaro, Corvette, SS, Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado, Silverado and Express may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement festoon or "fuse" style bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

If you would like to have a brighter dome light, install a compatible DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the lens cover.

Pull Back Metal Tab
Locate the small notch on the front edge of the dome light (or "map") light bulb housing's lens cover. (The side closest to the windshield.)

Gently pry out the lens cover with the small flathead screwdriver.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Gently pull back one of the metal electrical contacts to release the old bulb from the socket.

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful when you remove it since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Insert New DE 3175
Carefully insert a new festoon style # DE3175 bulb in to the socket.

Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try removing the new bulb and flipping it around in the socket.

Test New Dome Light Bulb
Line up the lens cover over the housing and first re-insert the two plastic tabs on the rear edge.

Then gently snap in the front edge of the lens cover to secure it in place.

Test the new dome / map light bulb by sliding the switch to the "On" position.

I'd recommend leaving the switch in the "Door" position so that the dome / map light will turn on when ever you open a passenger door.
