Prix Engine Oil Change Guide

Now you can raise the car using the floor jack and then place jack stands under the car as a safety backup. The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil sump pan and was marked with yellow paint on my car. Remove the oil filler cap, place the catch container below the car and remove the oil drain plug with a 15mm wrench or socket. Go take a break and let the old engine oil drain for a few minutes. This would also be a good time to perform an Eaton M90 Supercharger Oil Change if you haven't before. |

| Once all the old motor oil has been drained out of your GM 3800 L67 V6 engine, you can replace the oil drain bolt, and remove the old oil filter by hand or by using an oil filter wrench. Lube up the new filter's rubber o-ring with some new oil. Some of the oil filters that will fit the L67 include the Purolator PureONE PL10111, Purolator L10111, and the Fram PH3387A. Wipe off the oil filter receptacle and screw on the new filter hand tight. | ||||

With the oil drain bolt securely tightened by hand and the new oil filter in place, you can now remove the catch container, lower the car off the jack and put the funnel into the oil fill port. The 2001 Grand Prix GTP owner's manual calls for four and a half quarts of oil for which I have chosen Mobil 1 10W30 synthetic blend. Just put in 4 quarts of oil to start, then warm up the engine and check the level on the dipstick. Slowly add the last .5 quart until the dipstick indicates that the oil level is just below the maximum line. Then check under the car for any leaks, and you're done. Record the oil change details such as vehicle mileage and the date and put it in your glove box for safe-keeping. A good set of maintenance records can mean hundreds of extra dollars in your pocket if you ever sell your car. |

| It's also a good idea to check your paper or foam air filter at each oil change and replace it if it's dirty.
