We must
have spent at least a few solid hours of our ten day Big Island
vacation traveling up and down this approximately 30 mile stretch of
Hwy 19 along the Kona Coast.
Our vacation rental, Kona Comfort, was located down in the city of
Kailua-Kona while many of the beaches we wanted to visit were up
north.
A few of the attractions along Hwy 19
include Kekaha Kai State Park,
A-Bay Beach,
Holoholokai Beach Park,
Hapuna Beach, and Mauna Kea Beach.
There are some scenic views along Hwy
19 and also an interesting collection of messages written out in
white rocks on the black lava fields along the side of the road.
My favorite part of Hwy 19 is the
Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur rock sculpture that someone constructed
(see below). |
