This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the 2nd generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015)
Hyundai Tucson SUV in cleaning or changing the A/C system's cabin
air filter element in the HVAC blower motor housing. Owners of other Hyundai and Kia vehicles such as the Accent, Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Veloster, Tiburon, Genesis, Lavita, Veracruz, Santa Fe, ix35, Equus, Cadenza, Forte, Optima, Rio, Soul, Sedona, Sorento, Spectra and Sportage may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A few compatible replacement cabin air filters with their part numbers include: Purolator C35865, Ecogard XC35865, Fram CF10709, Premium Guard PC4684, Hastings AFC1350, Mahle LA 301, TYC 800029P, OEM CAF126P, Wix # 24684, Mann MC 1081, Pentius PHB5865, K&N VF2007, Champion Labs CAF1820P, ACDelco CF3242 and Beck Arnley 042-2054. No tools are needed to replace the filter. A wet/dry shop vacuum may be useful for cleaning the OEM element in order to re-use it. |

Pop Damper Arm Off Peg |
Side Stopper Knob |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
The first few steps
are to sit in the front passenger of the vehicle, open the glove box and
empty out the contents. Then move to the right side of the glove box and pull the plastic damper arm off the two prongs at the end of the mounting peg. |
||
Remove Side Stop |
Remove Left Side Stop |
Lower Glove Box |
Remove the two side
stoppers by rotating the knobs on the inside of the glove box 1/4 turn
counterclockwise before pulling them straight out. Set the two side stops aside in a safe place. Gently lower the glove box down to the passenger floor mat. |
||
Filter Access Cover |
Release Tabs On Right |
Squeeze Together Tabs |
Once the glove box
has been lowered out of the way, you'll be able to see the rectangular black
plastic filter access panel on the HVAC blower motor housing. Pinch together the two tabs on the right side of the filter access cover to release the retaining clips. |
||
Remove Tab On Left |
Filter Access Panel Removed |
Old Cabin Filter Exposed |
Swing open the
filter cover and remove the tab on the left side from its slot. Set the filter cover aside in a safe place. |
||
|
||
Slide Out Old Filter |
Inspect Both Sides |
Clean With Vacuum |
Slide the old cabin
air filter straight out of the slot. Inspect both sides of the old filter. If the old filter is relatively clean, just tap out the large debris and remove any fine dust with a vacuum. If the old filter is dark grey or black and clogged with dirt, dust, leaves, insects, pollen, hair, twigs and other debris, it should be replaced with a new one. I recommend buying the TYC 800029P cabin air filter since it has great reviews on Amazon. If you have problems with your A/C smelling moldy or musty, go with the Fram CF10709 "Fresh Breeze" filter instead. |
||
Filter Slot In Blower Motor |
Slide In New Cabin Filter |
Insert Tab In To Slot |
If the new filter
has an "Air Flow" or "Down" arrow, make sure it is pointing down towards the
floor mat. Slide the new air filter straight in to the slot. |
||
Swing Filter Cover Closed |
Push In Retaining Clips |
Raise Glove Box |
Line up the filter
access cover with the slot in the blower motor housing. Insert the tab on the left side of the cover in to the slot on the left side of the blower motor housing. Swing the right side of the cover closed and push it in to engage the retaining clips. Make sure that the filter cover is securely in place before moving on to the next steps. |
||
Push On Damper Arm |
Partially Close Glove Box |
Re-Insert Side Stopper |
Raise the glove box
towards the dashboard. Pop the plastic damper arm back in to place on its mounting peg. |
||
1/4 Turn Clockwise |
Replace Left Side Stop |
Close Glove Box |
Partially close the
glove box until the two side stops can be re-inserted in to the walls of the
glove box. Turn the side stop knobs 1/4 turn clockwise to lock them in place. Replace the contents of the glove box and close it to complete the job. For more,
