Hyundai
Veloster Map Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out map light bulb
in the overhead console of a 1st generation 2012 to 2017 Hyundai Veloster.
2017 Veloster Map Lights |
Gently Pry Out Rear Edge |
This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and
2017) Hyundai Veloster in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the
overhead console. Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles such as the Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Santa Fe, Tucson, Accent, Ioniq, Genesis, Tiburon, ix20, i20, i30, i40, Veracruz, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento, Sedona, Rio, Forte and Spectra may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA. You can also use a brighter DE3175 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulbs is either a small plastic pry bar tool or a flathead screwdriver. |

Lens Cover Removed |
Old Bulb Exposed |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, I recommend either using a small plastic
pry bar tool or cover the tip of
your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth. Insert the blade of the tool in between the lens cover and the overhead console at the front edge (closest to the windshield). Gently pry out the front edge of the lens cover (near the windshield). Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Old Light Bulb Removed |
If the old light
bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it since it might
still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket. |
|
Empty Bulb Socket |
Push In New Light Bulb |
Push a new number
DE3175 festoon style light bulb
straight in to the socket. If you would like to have brighter map lights, choose a compatible LED bulb. (Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work at first, try flipping it 180 degrees in the socket.) |

Line Up Lens Cover |
To test the new
light bulb, press the white plastic "On/Off" button. Line up the translucent plastic lens cover with the light housing. |
|
Re-Insert Plastic Hooks |
Gently Snap In Front Edge |
First, re-insert
the two plastic hooks on the rear edge (closest to the back of the car) in
to the overhead console. Then gently pop in the retaining clips on the front edge (near the windshield). |
