How to change a burnt out brake, rear
turn signal, side marker or reverse light bulb in a 2012-2017 Hyundai Veloster.

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and
2017) Hyundai Veloster in changing a burnt out brake, rear turn
signal, reverse and side marker bulbs in the tail light housings. Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles such as the Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Santa Fe, Tucson, Accent, Ioniq, Genesis, Tiburon, ix20, i20, i30, i40, Veracruz, Optima, Cadenza, K900, Soul, Niro, Sportage, Sorento, Sedona, Rio, Forte and Spectra may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Brake # 2357 (or P21/5W), Rear Turn Signal 1156A (or PY21W), Reverse # 921 (or W16W) and Side Marker # 2825 (or W5W). The tools needed to remove the tail light assembly and change the tail light bulbs include a Phillips head screwdriver and a plastic pry bar tool. |

The first two steps
are to open the hatchback door for the cargo area and then move to the side
of the car with the burnt out tail light bulb. Remove the two screws along the inner edge of the tail light assembly by turning them counterclockwise with a Phillips head screwdriver. Set the two screws aside in a safe place. |

The tail light
housing is still held in place to the rear corner of the vehicle by two
metal pegs or "spikes" inserted in to plastic grommets and also a slot
attached to the head of a plastic pop rivet. Use a plastic pry bar tool or a screwdriver covered with a micro fiber cloth to very gently pry the outer / front edge of the tail light housing towards the rear of the car. Try to avoid using excessive pressure to prevent from cracking the tail light lens. Do not pry out away from the car. Gently apply pressure towards the rear of the car only. |

Bulb Socket Removed |
Gently pull the
tail light assembly straight off the rear corner of the car. Turn over the tail light to access the bulb sockets. You may want to place a towel on the rear bumper cover to protect the painted surfaces and the plastic lens from being scratched. The large grey plastic brake light bulb socket is located near the center of the housing. Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Push the old brake
light bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise
before pulling it straight out of the socket. Push a new number 2357 (also known as the P21/5W) light bulb straight in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

The rear side
marker light bulb socket is located near the outer edge of the tail light
housing. Rotate the base of the small grey plastic bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. Pull the old side marker bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new number 2825 bulb. Re-insert the side marker bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

The orange plastic
rear turn signal bulb socket is located near the bottom of the tail light
housing. Rotate the base of the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. Push the old bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out. |

Push a new amber
colored number 1156A (also known
as the PY21W) light bulb
straight in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in
place. Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

The grey plastic
reverse light bulb socket is located near the bottom inner corner of the
tail light housing. Rotate the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of the housing. Pull the old reverse light bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new number 921 (also known as # W16W) bulb straight in to the socket. If you would like to have brighter reverse lights, there are 921 LED bulb options available. |

Re-insert the bulb
socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in
place. Line up the two metal pegs or "spikes" on the rear of the tail light housing with their corresponding plastic grommets on the car. You'll also need to line up the plastic slot on the tail light housing with the white plastic pop rivet head on the vehicle. |

Replace Upper Screw |
Slide the tail
light housing forward to secure the two metal pegs and the slot over the pop
rivet. Replace the two screws by turning them clockwise with the Phillips head screwdriver until they are snug. |

Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Try to avoid over
tightening the two screws to prevent from cracking the plastic inner edge of
the tail light housing. To test the new tail light bulbs, have an assistant step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard signals and place the transmission in reverse. For more,
