This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and probably also the face lifted 2018 model year) Jeep Cherokee in changing a burnt out vanity mirror light bulb in the sun visor.

Owners of other Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and RAM vehicles such as the Compass, Renegade, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Patriot, 500, Town & Country, 200, 300, Pacifica, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, RAM 1500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster Van may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement light bulb part number is 74.

If you want brighter lights, there are also sub miniature wedge base 74 LED bulbs available.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or use a plastic pry bar tool.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver in between the outer edge of the lens cover and the housing.

Use the small flathead screwdriver to very carefully push the old bulb out of the socket.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The old bulb should pop out relatively easily.

Testing New Light Bulbs
Line up the lens cover and gently snap it back in to place.

If the new light bulb didn't turn on as soon as you pushed it in to the socket, test it by opening and closing the mirror cover.

You may need to press the "Unlock" button on the key fob or the door's switch panel to activate the interior lights.
