How to change a burnt out cargo area

This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012,
2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Jeep Patriot SUV in changing a burnt out
cargo area light bulb in the headliner housing near the tailgate
door. Owners of other Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and RAM vehicles such as the Compass, Renegade, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, 500, Town & Country, 200, 300, Pacifica, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, RAM 1500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster Van may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. A replacement festoon or "fuse" style bulb is part number 578 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko. You can also use a brighter 578 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry open the hinged lens cover. |

Insert the blade of
the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the driver side of the
lens cover. Gently pry open the hinged lens cover. |

Pull Out Old Light Bulb |

If the old light
was recently illuminated, be careful when you remove it since it might still
be hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket. |

Push In New # 578 Bulb |

Push a new number 578 festoon bulb straight in to the socket. | |
Snap Lens Cover Closed |
Test New Cargo Area Bulb |
Swing the lens
cover closed and gently pop the retaining clip back in to place. Test the new cargo area light bulb by opening the tailgate door or by pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob to activate the interior lights. Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try flipping it around in the socket. For more,
