This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Jeep Patriot SUV in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console.

Owners of other Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat and RAM vehicles such as the Compass, Renegade, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, 500, Town & Country, 200, 300, Pacifica, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Grand Caravan, RAM 1500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster Van may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement festoon or "fuse" type bulb is part number 578 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko.

You can also use a brighter 578 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry open the lens cover.

Pull Straight Out of Socket
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver in to the small notch on the left (driver) side of the map light housing.

Gently pry open the left side of the lens cover.

Swing open the hinged lens cover to the right side.

If the old bulbs were recently illuminated, be careful since they might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.
