This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the second generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 &
2015) Kia Sorento SUV in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the
overhead console or upgrading them both to brighter LED units. Owners of other Kia and Hyundai vehicles such as the Optima, Forte, Cadenza, K900, Rio, Sportage, Sedona, Soul, Elantra, Veloster, Sonata, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe, Genesis and Equus may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The OEM map light bulbs are Toshiba part # W10W or Kia / Hyundai part number 1864310009N or "18643-10009-N". They can be purchased at your local dealership's parts counter. I recommend buying the Satco S4553 which is 11 watts so it will be slightly brighter than the OEM 10 watt bulbs. You may also be able to use other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the 912, 168, 194, 2825, W5W or an LED. The only tool needed to change the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover. |

Pull Out Old Bulb |

To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your
screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth. Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the lens cover and the light housing near the inner edge. Gently pry out the inner edge of the lens cover to release the two retaining clips. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place. If the old bulb was recently turned on, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket. |
