This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Kia Sportage SUV in changing a burnt out glove box light bulb.

Owners of other Kia and Hyundai vehicles such as the Optima, Forte, Cadenza, K900, Rio, Sorento, Sedona, Soul, Elantra, Veloster, Sonata, Azera, Tucson, Santa Fe, Genesis and Equus may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement glove box light bulb is part number 2825 or W5W.

If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, 168, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

(Sylvania lists the replacement bulb as a festoon type # 6418.)

The only tool needed to replace the bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the light housing.

Open the glove box and locate the small notch on the left side of the light housing.

To keep from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to the notch on the left side and gently pry out the housing.

Press the release button on the black plastic electrical connector and pull the plug off the housing.

(If your Sportage is equipped with a festoon or "fuse" type light bulb, install a new # 6418 bulb in to the socket.)
