This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & the refreshed 2016 model year) Mazda CX-5 SUV in changing a burnt out overhead dome / rear reading light bulb above the second row of passenger seats.

Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the Mazda 2, Mazda 3, Mazda 5, Mazda 6, CX-7, CX-9, and the MX-5 Miata may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement festoon or "fuse" style bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

You can also use a compatible DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to change the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the translucent plastic lens cover.

To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may want to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Carefully insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the lens cover and the overhead housing near the front edge.

Gently pry out the two retaining clips on either side near the front edge. You may need to re-position your screwdriver.

If the old bulb was recently illuminated, be careful since it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.
