South Beach or "SoBe" is a ritzy community located in the city of Miami Beach which is an island that separates the Atlantic Ocean from Biscayne Bay

The area became famous when it attracted the attention of TV and movie stars. Some of the films or shows that have been shot in the South Beach area include the Jackie Gleason show, Miami Vice, Holy Man, There's Something About Mary, Strip Tease and True Lies.

A few of the famous names that either live in South Beach or have visited the area include Don Johnson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eddie Murphy, Sharon Stone, Sylvester Stallone, Elton John, Oprah, and Cameron Diaz.

South Beach also gained it's notoriety when photographers and fashion models flocked to the area for the picturesque Art Deco backdrops on Ocean Drive.

If you're looking to join in on the South Beach excitement there is a great selection of world class hotels that you can stay at including The Palms, The Plaza, The Clevelander, Hotel Victor, The Ritz Carlton, the Miami Beach Resort & Spa and The National Hotel @ South Beach.

Once you're settled in at your hotel, the shopaholic in your group can go to the Lincoln Road Mall, nearby Bayside, or one of the other small shops such as La vida, Front Page, Ocean Treasure, After Dark, South Beach Collectibles, and Ice Blue.

Personally I'd rather sample some of the fine dining at Cameron Diaz's Bambu restaurant or other tasty choices including Cafe Tabac, Balans, Monty's, Moshi Moshi, Opium and Pacific Time. Most of the establishments are quite pricey as evidenced by the Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and BMWs parked outside so bring plenty of money.

Many types of international events take place in the Miami Beach area including Hot Import Nights, the Red Dot Fair, Festival Miami, the Brazilian Film Festival, Miami Int. Wine Fair, the South Florida Int. Auto Show and the Int. Mango Festival just to name a few. Some of these events take place at the expansive Miami Beach Convention Center.
