Gently Pry Out Lens Cover
This automotive maintenance DIY tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015) Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in changing a burnt out map light bulb in the overhead console or upgrading both bulbs to brighter LED units.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Camry, Corolla, Sienna, RAV4, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Hilux, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The replacement bulb part number is 2825 or W5W.

You may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 158, 168, 194 or a compatible LED unit.

The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the lens cover.

Carefully Pull Out Old Bulb
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the screwdriver in between the lens cover and the overhead console near the outer edge.

Gently pry out the retaining clips on the front and rear outer corner of the lens cover.

Then pull the plastic tab on the inner edge of the cover out of the housing.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Due to the chrome silver metal reflector being in the way, it can be somewhat difficult to pull out the old bulb with your fingers.

You might be able to just pull it out with your finger tips.

I found it easier to very carefully pry the base of the old bulb out of the socket with the flathead screwdriver.

Be very careful if you pry out the old bulb and wear protective eye wear just in case the bulb breaks.
