VW Tiguan Map
Light Bulbs Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out overhead map
light bulb in a 1st generation 2009 to 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV.
2016 Tiguan Map Lights |
Gently Pry Out Lens Cover |
This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the first generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014,
2015, 2016 and 2017) Volkswagen Tiguan SUV in changing a burnt out
map light bulb in the overhead console or upgrading them both to
brighter LED units. Owners of other VW or Audi vehicles such as the Jetta, Passat, CC, Atlas, Touareg, Golf, Beetle, A3, S3, RS 3, A4, S4, A5, A6, S6, A7, S7, RS 7, A8, Q3, Q5, TT and Q7 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb is part number 2825 (also known as W5W). Or install some compatible 2825 LED bulbs. The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

Pull Out Lens Cover |
Lens Cover Removed |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic surfaces, I recommend either covering the tip of your
screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a small plastic
automotive trim panel removal tool. Insert the blade of the screwdriver or plastic tool in between the rear edge of the translucent plastic lens cover and the overhead console. Gently pry out the lens cover. You may need to re-insert the tool into another part of the lens cover to fully remove it. Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily. Set the lens cover aside in a safe place. |

Silver Plastic Reflector |
Pry Out Reflector Plate |
I wasn't able to
pull out the old light bulb at this point.
They seemed to be just out of reach since they are recessed into the housing. For easier access to the bulbs, you can pry out the chrome silver reflector plate. |

Reflector & Lens Cover |
Gently pry out the reflector panel with the flathead screwdriver and set it aside in a safe place.
Old Light Bulbs Exposed |
Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
If the old light
bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The bulb might
still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket. |

The OEM light bulb was marked as part number W5W which is the same as the 2825 bulb.

Testing New Light Bulb |
Push a new number
2825 light bulb straight into
the socket. If you would like to have brighter map lights, install some compatible 2825 LED bulbs. |
|

Line up the
reflector plate and gently snap it back into place. Make sure the reflector panel's retaining clips are securely attached. |

To test the new map
light bulbs, press the "On/Off' buttons near each light. I recommend moving the "Off / Door / On" rocker switch to the "Door" setting so that the overhead map lights will turn on any time a passenger door is opened. For more, please check out my other
