This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 5th generation or "Generation V" (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Dodge Grand Caravan in changing the battery in the combination ignition key and key fob remote control for the keyless entry system.

Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or RAM vehicles with similar key fobs such as the Avenger, 200, 300, Town & Country, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Patriot, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Compass, 1500, 2500, 3500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement coin cell (A.K.A. "button" or "watch") battery is part number CR2032 which is available from manufacturers such as Panasonic, GE, Sony, Energizer, Maxell and Duracell.

The only tool needed to replace the battery is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry apart the two halves of the fob.

If your 2008, 2009 or 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan has the previous style key fob with the permanent metal ignition key attached, please refer to my Dodge Avenger Key Fob Battery Change Guide.

If your Chrysler Town & Country is equipped with the intelligent or "smart" key fob and a push button start system, please view my Dodge Journey Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide.

Insert Flathead Screwdriver
The first step is to slide the switch at the bottom of the key fob in order to release the emergency metal ignition key.

Slide the backup metal ignition key out of the fob and set it aside in a safe place.

Then insert the blade of your small flathead screwdriver in to the notch where the metal key used to reside.

Test New Key Fob Battery
Re-insert the metal ignition key until it clicks securely in to place.

Test the new battery by standing near your Grand Caravan and pushing the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons.

If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and hear the door locks opening or closing.

Don't forget to record the battery change in your vehicle's service records.
