Pry Out Lens Cover
This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the fifth generation (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Toyota 4Runner SUV in changing a burnt out dome light bulb in the headliner housing.

Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion vehicles such as the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Prius, Camry, RAV4, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Avalon, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, IS 250, ES 350, GS 350, tC, xB, xD, iQ and FR-S may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement festoon or "fuse" style light bulb is part number DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko.

If you would like to have a brighter dome light, install a compatible replacement DE3175 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry out the lens cover.

Pull Back Electrical Contact
To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces, you may want to cover the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Locate the two small notches on the front edge of the lens cover.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in to one of the two notches and gently pry out the lens cover.

You might need to re-insert the screwdriver in to the other notch.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

Pull back the tab on the metal electrical contact to release the old bulb from the socket.

Empty Bulb Socket
I'd recommend buying the Sylvania DE3175 LL long life light bulbs since they tend to last for many years.

Or you can use a brighter LED equivalent bulb.

Re-Insert Tabs - Rear
Gently push the new DE3175 bulb in to the socket.

(Tip - If you are installing an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it and flipping it around in the socket.)

Re-insert the two plastic tabs on the rear edge of the lens cover in to the housing.

Test New Dome Light Bulb
Then gently snap in the front edge of the lens cover back in to the housing.

Test the new dome light bulb by sliding the "On/Door/Off" switch to the "On" position.

I'd recommend moving the switch to the "Door" position so that the dome light will turn on when ever a passenger door is opened.
