This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the fourth generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015)
Hyundai Accent in changing a burnt out brake, rear turn signal,
parking light, side marker or reverse bulb in the tail light
housings. Owners of other Hyundai or Kia vehicles such as the Tucson, Elantra, Sonata, Azera, Veloster, Tiburon, Genesis, Lavita, Veracruz, Santa Fe, ix20, i20, ix35, Fluidic Verna, Equus, Cadenza, Forte, Optima, Rio, Soul, Sedona, Sorento, Spectra and Sportage may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. Replacement bulbs with their part numbers are as follows: Brake # 1157 (or 2357), Rear Turn Signal # 1156A or 1156NA, Reverse # 921, Side Marker # 2825 or W5W and Parking Light # 1157 or 2357. The only tool needed to access and replace the bulbs is a Phillips head screwdriver. (You may also use a socket and ratcheting wrench to remove the three hex head screws.) |

The first two steps
are to open the tailgate door and then move to the side of the vehicle with
the burnt out tail light bulb. Locate the three hex head Phillips screws and the one Phillips screw attached to the rubber stopper. Loosen the screws by turning them counterclockwise with a Phillips head screwdriver. |

Gently Pull Off Housing |
Set the four screws
aside in a safe place. Gently pull the tail light housing straight off the rear corner of the vehicle. The housing is still held in place to the car by two metal pegs or "spikes" inserted in to plastic grommets. If you have trouble removing the tail light assembly, try gently prying along the outer edge of the housing with a plastic automotive panel tool or a flathead screwdriver covered with a thin micro fiber cloth. |

Turn Over Assembly |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Brake Socket Removed |
Turn over the tail
light housing to access the five bulb sockets. The Brake light is located at the bottom of the assembly. Rotate the brake light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it from the housing. |

Push Down & 1/4 Turn CC |
Push In New # 1157 |
1/4 Turn Clockwise |
Push the old brake
light bulb
down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling
it straight out. Insert a new # 1157 (or 2357) dual filament bulb in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to lock it in place. |

Rotate the Rear
Turn Signal bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the
housing. Push the old bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out. |

Install New # 1156A |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Reverse Bulb Socket |
Push a new amber
colored # 1156A or 1156NA bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn
clockwise to secure it in place. Rotate the grey plastic reverse bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the housing. |

Pull Out Old # 921 Bulb |

Bulb Socket Removed |
Pull the old bulb
straight out of the socket and push in a new # 921 bulb. Re-insert the reverse bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Insert New # 1157 Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise - Lock |
Rotate the large
grey Parking light bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out of
the housing. Push the old bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn counterclockwise before pulling it straight out. Push a new # 1157 or 2357 bulb down in to the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Side Marker Bulb Socket |
Pull Out Old # W5W Bulb |
Re-Insert 1/4 Turn Clockwise |
Rotate the small
grey plastic rear side marker bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and pull
it straight out of the housing. Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 2825 or W5W bulb. You may also be able to use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 168, 158, 194 or a compatible LED unit. Re-insert the rear side marker bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place. |

Push On Tail Light Housing |
Line up the two
metal pegs or "spikes" on the back side of the housing with the plastic
grommets on the rear corner of the vehicle. Carefully push the tail light assembly back on to the rear corner of the car. |

Tighten Rubber Bumper Screw |
Tighten Clockwise |
Replace Lower Screw |
Re-insert the
rubber stop screw and tighten it in the clockwise direction with the
Phillips head screwdriver. Then tighten the other three screws in the clockwise direction with the Phillips head screwdriver until they are snug. |

Test New Tail Light Bulbs |
Try to avoid over
tightening the screws to prevent from cracking the plastic inner edge of the
tail light housing. Test the new tail light bulbs by having someone step on the brake pedal, activate the hazard signals and place the transmission in reverse. Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records. For more,
