This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the fourth generation (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and maybe
also the updated 2017 model year) Toyota RAV4 SUV in changing the
rear wiper blade on the back windshield window. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus or Scion SUV, minivan or hatchback vehicles such as the Yaris, Matrix, Prius, Sienna, FJ Cruiser, Venza, Highlander, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, xB, xD, and iQ may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The OEM wiper blade is 12 inches in size and the part number is Toyota 85242-42040. A few compatible replacement 12" wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Valeo R12E, Denso # 160-5512, Bosch H307 / 3397011429 and Michelin 9512 Stealth. (Please see the "Update" below before ordering.) Update: I've had reports from other RAV4 owners that the 12" wiper blades did not work for their SUV. Please measure your original (OEM) wiper blade before buying a new one. I've read Amazon reviews where RAV4 owners have been able to use 11" or 10" rear wiper blades. The correct wiper blade may vary depending on whether your RAV4 was assembled in North America (Canada) or in Japan. I recommend buying the OEM rear wiper blade assembly (plastic arm, metal blade holder & rubber wiper blade) which is part number Toyota 85242-42040. Or you can buy just the rubber wiper blade refill by itself which is part number Toyota 85214-42040. No tools are needed to replace the rear window wiper blade. |

Please verify the correct replacement part number for your RAV4 before purchasing a new rear wiper blade by calling a Toyota dealership's parts counter, consulting with an auto parts store or by using the Amazon Part Finder website. The compatible part numbers may vary depending on your vehicle's model year, trim level and/or manufacturing location. |

The first step is
to gently pull open the cover on the base of the wiper arm. Swing open the hinged cap. Lift the wiper arm off the rear window. Rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm at a slight angle. |

Line Up New Wiper Blade |
Insert Bar In To "C" Socket |
Rotate Blade Towards Arm |
I recommend buying
the OEM Toyota 85242-42040 rear
wiper blade. Line up the new wiper blade at a 45 degree angle to the wiper arm. Gently insert the mounting bar in the center of the new wiper blade in to the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm. Rotate the new wiper blade until it is parallel with the wiper arm. |
||
Blade Parallel With Arm |
Lower Blade To Window |
New Blade Against Window |
Double check that
the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm. Gently lower the wiper arm to the rear window. |
||
Close Hinged Cover |
Snap On Base Cap |
New Wiper Blade Installed |
Swing the hinged
cover closed over the base of the wiper arm and gently snap it back in to
place. For the best wiper performance, I'd recommend thoroughly cleaning off the back windshield and applying a window treatment product such as Rain-X or Zaino Bros Glass Polish. For more,
