This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the tenth generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018) GM Chevy Impala in changing a burnt out combination brake / rear turn signal bulb, reverse bulb or parking light bulb in the tail light assemblies.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Malibu, Cruze, Camaro, Sonic, Spark, Volt, Corvette, Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, SS Sedan, Bolt, Colorado, Silverado, Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Cascada, Encore, Envision, Enclave, Canyon, Sierra 1500, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, ATS, CTS, XTS, CT6, XT5, SRX and Escalade may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Brake / Rear Turn Signal # 7443, Reverse # 7440 and Parking Light # 194.

The tools needed to access and replace the light bulbs include a pop rivet removal tool and/or a flathead screwdriver.

2 Hooks & 1 Pop Rivet
The first two steps are to open the trunk lid and then move to the side of the car with the burnt out tail light bulb.

There are two round plastic pop rivets and two cargo net hooks holding the carpeted trunk liner in place to the rear corner of the trunk.

Use a pop rivet pry bar tool, a flathead screwdriver or a pair of needle nose pliers to gently pull out the two pop rivets.

Remove the two cargo net hooks by turning them counterclockwise.

2 Pop Rivets & Rubber Piece
To remove the rectangular shaped rubber bumper piece, gently push up the outer edge and slide it towards the center of the trunk to release the rubber pegs from their slots.

I just carefully used a screwdriver to pry off the rubber bumper cover since I wasn't aware of the slots with a larger hole and a smaller hole used to secure the small rubber pegs in place.

Set the two pop rivets and the rubber trunk bumper piece aside in a safe place.
