This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the second generation 2014, 2015, 2016 and the revised
2017 or 2018 model year Nissan Rogue SUV in changing a weak or dead
battery in the key fob remote control for the keyless entry system. Owners of other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles such as the Murano, Altima, Titan, Versa, Sentra, Maxima, Leaf, 370Z, GT-R, Juke, Pathfinder, Armada, Patrol, Skyline, Cube, X-Trail, Xterra, Qashqai, Rogue Sport, NV200, NV400, Teana, Q50, Q70, Q60, QX30, QX50, QX56, QX60, QX70 and QX80 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement coin cell (A.K.A. "button" or "watch") battery is part number CR2032 which is available from a variety of manufacturers such as Maxell, Panasonic, Sony, GE, Duracell and Energizer. The only tool needed to access and replace the key fob battery is a small flathead screwdriver or a small plastic pry bar tool. |

Notch On Bottom Edge |
Insert Flathead Screwdriver |
The first step is
to press the chrome silver button on the top left corner of the fob to
release the metal ignition key. Flipping out the switchblade or "jackknife" ignition key will make it easier to disassemble the fob. To prevent from scratching the plastic surfaces on the key fob, I recommend either using a plastic pry bar tool or you can cover your flathead screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth. Insert the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool in to the small notch on the bottom edge of the fob near the loop for the metal key ring. Gently pry apart the two halves of the fob housing. |
|
Gently Pry Apart Fob |
Separate Two Halves |
You may need to re-insert your tool in to another section of the fob to fully separate the two halves with out using excessive force. | |
Old Battery Exposed |
Gently Pry Out Old Battery |
Once the back cover
of the fob has been separated, you will see the old battery in its slot. Gently pry the old battery out of its socket with the screwdriver or use your fingernail. Try to avoid bending, scratching or damaging the metal electrical contacts. |

with the "+" positive side facing down and the "-" negative side facing up
towards you. Make sure that the new battery is securely installed in to the socket. |
|

Snap Together Two Halves |
Line up the back
half of the fob with the front half.
Gently snap together the two halves of the key fob housing. |
|
Key Fob Re-Assembled |
Test New Key Fob Battery |
Double check that
the two halves of the fob are flush together at every edge.
To test the new key fob battery, stand near your SUV and press the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons. If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and hear the door locks opening or closing. For more, check out all of my
