This
automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist
owners of the third generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and
maybe also the 2019 and 2020 model years) Toyota Highlander SUV
in changing a burnt out low beam, high beam, front turn signal or
side marker light bulb in the headlight housings. Owners of other Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles such as the 4Runner, Avalon, 86, C-HR, Camry, Corolla, iM, Land Cruiser, Mirai, Prius, RAV4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra, Yaris, FR-S, xB, xD, tC, xA, CT 200h, ES 250, ES 300, ES 330, ES 350, IS 250, IS 350, RX 300, GS 250, NX 300 and RX 350. The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Low Beam # H11, High Beam # 9005, Front Turn Signal # 7444NA and Front Side Marker # 2825 (or W5W). No tools are needed to access and replace the low beam or high beam bulbs. To change the front turn signal or side marker, you'll need a small flathead screwdriver or a small plastic pry bar tool. |

Twist Off Counterclockwise |
Old Low Beam Exposed |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
The first two steps
are to open the hood and then move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out
headlight bulb. The low beam light is located near the middle of the headlight assembly. The lens resembles a "robot eye", in my opinion. Reach in behind the headlight housing and locate the round grey plastic dust cap. Rotate the dust cover 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the housing. Set the dust cap aside in a safe place. Rotate the base of the old low beam bulb 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the housing. |
||
Pull Back Retaining Clip |
Old Low Beam Removed |
Push On Power Plug |
Gently pull back
the tab to release the retaining clip on the electrical connector. Slide the power plug straight off the base of the old low beam bulb. Try to avoid touching the glass part of the new halogen light bulb with your fingers or anything greasy in the engine bay. If you do get the new bulb dirty, wipe it clean with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol. Push the electrical connector straight on to the base of a new number H11 until it clicks securely into place. |

Twist On Dust Cover |
Insert the new low
beam bulb into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction
to secure it into place. Replace the dust cap by twisting it on 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction. |

Push On Power Plug |
Turn Signal & Side Marker |
Push Down Center of Fastener |
Slide the power
plug straight on to the base of the new high beam bulb until it clicks
securely into place. The front turn signal and side marker light bulbs are located near the outer corner of the headlight housing. In order to access the two bulb sockets, you will need to remove the black plastic cover located on top of the rear corner of the headlight housing. There are two round black plastic pop rivet fasteners that secure the cover in place. |

Once the cover is
out of the way, you'll be able to see the long thin grey plastic bulb socket
for the side marker and the larger round grey plastic turn signal bulb
socket. Rotate the turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the housing. Carefully pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket. Push a new amber colored part number 7444NA light bulb straight into the socket. |

Re-insert the side
marker bulb socket straight into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn in the
