This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and perhaps also the revised 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 model years of the Ford Edge SUV in changing a burnt out courtesy step light or "puddle light" bulb in the bottom of the side view mirror housings.

Owners of other Ford and Lincoln vehicles such as the Escape, Expedition, EcoSport, Flex, Explorer, Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Mustang, Taurus, Ranger, Transit Connect, F-150, Endura, C-Max, Kuga, Mondeo, MKZ, Navigator, Aviator, Nautilus and Continental may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The original OEM courtesy step / puddle light part number is Ford 3F1Z-13B375-AA.

It is the same assembly for both the left (driver) and right (passenger) side view mirrors.

If you would like to have brighter lights with much longer lasting bulbs, install some Ford LED Puddle Lights which are available from a variety of aftermarket manufacturers.

The only tool needed to remove the old light assemblies is a small plastic pry bar tool or a flat head screwdriver.

Move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt out light.

Look at the light housing on the under side of the side view mirror housing.

Locate the two small black plastic tabs at the front and rear edges of the light housing.

Gently push in the tabs with a plastic pry bar tool or a flat head screwdriver to release the retaining clips.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The light housing should pop out relatively easily.

Carefully remove the bulb housing from the underside of the side view mirror.

There are two spade style electrical connectors attached to the light housing.

Gently pull the spade connectors straight off the electrical terminals on the light housing.

If you have trouble removing the connectors, gently wiggle the connector back and forth while pulling it straight off.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) light bulb housing is part number Ford 3F1Z-13B375-AA.

You can also replace them with brighter and longer lasting Ford LED Puddle Lights from a variety of aftermarket manufacturers.

Push the spade connectors on to the electrical terminals on the new light housing.

Re-insert the wires into the opening in the underside of the side view mirror.

Gently snap the new housing into place.

You should hear and / or feel the two retaining clips "click" securely into place.

To test the new courtesy step or "puddle light", turn on the parking lights or press the "Unlock" button on the key fob to re-activate the exterior lights.

Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
