This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second
generation 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Mazda CX-9 SUV in changing
a burnt out front turn signal light bulb or the front side marker light bulb
located in the headlight housing. Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the CX-5, CX-3, CX-30, MX-30, CX-8, Mazda8 (MPV), MX-5 Miata, Mazda2 (Demio), Mazda3 (Axela), Mazda6 (Atenza) and Mazda5 (Premacy) may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement light bulb part numbers are as follows: Front Turn Signal # 7444NA (also known as 7444A) and Front Side Marker # WY5W (also known as 2827). If you'd like to have brighter lights that will also last much longer before burning out like the traditional incandescent bulbs, install some 7444NA LED and WY5W LED units. No tools are needed to access and replace the light bulbs. The first two steps are to open the hood and then move to the side of the vehicle with the burnt out light bulb. (Note - The low beam and high beam headlights on this 2019 CX-9 AWD model are LED bulbs that should last the lifetime of the vehicle.) |

Reach In Turn Signal |
1/4 Turn Counterclockwise |
Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
The front turn
signal light bulb socket is situated near the lower outer edge of the
headlight housing. Reach in to the back side of the housing and rotate the larger front turn signal bulb socket 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out. If the old light bulb was recently turned on, it might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Be careful when you remove it. Gently pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket. If you have trouble removing a stubborn or stuck bulb due to rust, sand or debris, try gently wiggling it back and forth while pulling it straight out. |

OEM Stanley 7444NA |
Push In New Light Bulb |
Reach In To Side Marker |
The OEM (original
equipment manufacturer) light bulb was a Stanley 7444NA 12V28/8W. Push a new number 7444NA natural amber colored wedge base light bulb straight into the socket. Clean off the glass part of the incandescent bulb with a paper towel and some rubbing alcohol. Any grease or oil left on the incandescent bulb might create a hot spot and reduce the lifespan of the new bulb. If you'd like to have brighter front turn signal lights, install some compatible replacement 7444NA LED bulbs. Re-insert the bulb socket into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction. The front side marker bulb socket is also situated on the outer edge of the headlight housing just above the front turn signal bulb. Locate the smaller bulb socket. Rotate the front side marker bulb socket 1/4 turn in the counterclockwise direction before pulling it straight out of the housing. |

Push In New Light Bulb |
1/4 Turn Clockwise |
Test New Light Bulbs |
Re-insert the bulb
socket into the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction to
secure it in place. To test the new light bulbs, turn on the parking lights and activate the hazard signals. Tip - If you installed LED bulbs and they don't work, try removing them from the socket, rotate them 180 degrees and push them back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation. Don't forget to write down the bulb change in your SUV's service records. For more,
