This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the second generation 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 Mazda CX-9 SUV in changing the rear wiper blade on the back windshield window.

Owners of other Mazda vehicles such as the CX-5, CX-3, CX-30, MX-30, CX-8, Mazda8 (MPV), MX-5 Miata, Mazda2 (Demio), Mazda3 (Axela), Mazda6 (Atenza) and Mazda5 (Premacy) may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) wiper blade size in inches is 14".

A few compatible replacement 14" wiper blades with their part numbers include the following: Michelin 9514, Trico 14-A, Bosch H352, Rain-X R14A and ACDelco 8-214A.

No tools are needed to remove and replace the rear wiper blade.

The first step is to move to the base of the wiper arm where it is attached to the window.

Gently pull the black plastic "U" shaped cover off the base of the wiper arm.

Set the plastic cover aside in a safe place.

Carefully raise the wiper blade and arm off the glass.

Rotate the old wiper blade away from the wiper arm.

Pull Blade Off Arm
Hold the wiper arm with one hand and continue rotating away the old blade with your other hand.

When you feel some resistance, slowly continue rotating the blade until you feel the plastic mounting bar pop out of the "C" shaped socket at the end of the arm.

The old wiper blade should be just about perpendicular (at a 90 degree angle) with the wiper arm.

Pull the old wiper blade straight off the end of the wiper arm.

Once the old blade has been detached, you'll be able to see the "C" shaped socket at the end of the wiper arm and the black plastic mounting bar in the middle of the old wiper blade.

I recommend buying the Bosch H352 rear wiper blade since it has excellent reviews from other CX-9 owners on Amazon.

(If your new wiper blade is equipped with a small protective plastic sleeve on the rubber piece, be sure to remove it before installation.)

Line up the new wiper blade with the end of the wiper arm as shown in the picture above.

The mounting bar should be closer to the passenger side of the car and the rubber blade should be pointing away from the glass.

Pass the end of the wiper arm through the opening in the center of the new blade.

Slowly rotate the new wiper blade until it is almost parallel with the wiper arm.

Once you feel some resistance, gently snap the mounting bar into the "C" shaped socket.

Try to avoid using excessive force. The mounting bar should pop into the socket relatively easily.

Wiper Change Done!
Push the plastic cover back over the silver metal nut and threaded bar end at the base of the wiper arm.

The plastic cap should "click" securely into place.

Make sure the new wiper blade and the plastic cover on the base are both securely installed.

For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the window and applying a glass treatment product that will repel water such as Rain-X.

Don't forget to write down the blade change in your SUV's service records.
