Toyota Tacoma Windshield Wiper Blades Replacement Guide
How to change the windshield window wiper
blades on a 3rd generation 2016 to 2021 Toyota Tacoma truck.
2020 Tacoma Windshield |
Raise Wiper Arm |
This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third
generation (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and probably also the 2022
and 2023 model years) Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in changing the front
windshield window wiper blades. Owners of other Toyota or Lexus vehicles such as the Tundra, 4Runner, Hilux, Highlander, C-HR, Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Supra, Land Cruiser, Prius, RAV4, Mirai, Sequoia, Sienna, Yaris, CT 200h, ES 300h, RX 350, GX 460, LX 570, NX 300, RX 450h, UX 200 and UX 250h may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) wiper blade sizes in inches are as follows: Driver Side 22" and Passenger Side 20". A few compatible replacement wiper blades with their part numbers are as follows: Bosch 22A & Bosch 20A, Rain-X 5079279-2 & Rain-X 5079277-2, Motium 22" & 20", Aero 22" & 20" and Michelin 8522 & Michelin 8520. The only tool needed to remove and replace the wiper blades is a small plastic pry bar tool or a flat head screwdriver. The first step is to carefully lift the wiper arm until it remains in the raised position by itself. |

|
Pry Out Locking Tab |
Swing Tab Open / Up |
Locate the
rectangular shaped plastic locking tab in the center of the old wiper blade. Gently pry up the bottom edge of the lock tab with the plastic pry bar tool or a flat head screwdriver. Swing the lock tab out towards yourself. |
|
Pull Down Old Blade |
Slide Mount Off Hook |
Firmly but carefully pull the old wiper blade down to slide the plastic mounting bracket out of the metal hook at the end of the wiper arm. | |
Rotate Perpendicular |
Lift Blade Off Wiper Arm |
Rotate the old
wiper blade until it is just about perpendicular (at a 90 degree angle) with
the wiper arm. Lift the old wiper blade off the end of the wiper arm. |
|
Towel - Protect Glass |
Line Up New Wiper Blade |
Place a towel on
the windshield to protect the glass from being chipped, scratched, cracked
or shattered just in case the metal wiper arm smacks down on to the window
while you are replacing the wiper blade. I recommend buying the Bosch 22A and Bosch 20A wiper blades since I've consistently had excellent experiences with the Bosch brand of wiper blades on a variety of cars over the last few decades. Orientate the new blade with the rubber part facing up away from the windshield. |
|
Pass Hook Through Blade |
Rotate Blade Parallel |
Pass the hook at
the end of the wiper arm through the opening in the center of the new wiper
blade. Rotate the wiper blade until it is parallel with the wiper arm. |
|
Slide Mount Up Into Hook |
Snap In Lock Tab |
Pull the new wiper
blade up until the plastic mounting bracket "clicks" securely into the metal
hook at the end of the wiper arm. Swing down the plastic locking tab and pop it back into place. |
|
Lower Blade To Glass |
Wiper Blades Replaced |
Double check that
the new wiper blade is securely attached to the wiper arm. Gently lower the wiper arm and blade back down to the windshield. For the best wiper performance, I recommend thoroughly cleaning off the windshield and applying a window treatment product such as Rain-X that will help repel water from the glass. Don't forget to record the blade change in your truck's service records. Please
