Toyota Camry
Trunk Light Bulb Replacement Guide
How to change a burnt out cargo area
light bulb in the trunk of an 8th generation 2018 to 2022 Toyota Camry.
2018 Camry Trunk Light |
Notch - Right Side |
This automotive
maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the XV70
eighth generation (2018, 2019 and probably also the 2020, 2021 & 2022 model
years) Toyota Camry sedan in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb
located in the trunk. Owners of other Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles such as the Avalon, Corolla, Prius, Yaris, Mirai, 86, Sienna, RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner, C-HR, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, Venza, Hilux, RX 350, IS 250, IS 350, CT 200H, GS 450h, GX 470, LX 470, UX 200, NX 300 and UX 250h may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful. The compatible replacement miniature wedge base light bulb part number is 2825 (also known as W5W). If you would like to have a brighter trunk light, choose a 2825 LED bulb. The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool. |

|
Pry Out Light Housing |
Push In Release Tab |
To prevent from
scratching the plastic housing or the metal body panel, you can either cover
the tip of your screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth or instead use a
plastic pry bar tool. Open the trunk and locate the light housing attached to the roof. Insert the blade of the tool into the notch on the right (passenger) side of the light housing. Gently pry out the light housing. Push in the release tab on the white plastic electrical connector before sliding it straight out of its socket. |
|
Power Plug Disconnected |
Pull Off Black Cover |
Gently pull the
black plastic cover off the rear of the light housing. Set the back cover aside in a safe place. |
|
Pull Out Old Light Bulb |
Old Light Bulb Removed |
If the old light
bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The old bulb
might still be hot enough to burn your fingers. Pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket. |

|
|
OEM W5W Light Bulb |
Push In New Light Bulb |
The original OEM
light bulb in this 2018 Camry was marked as part number W5W, which is the
same as the # 2825. Push a new number 2825 light bulb straight into the socket. If you would like to have a brighter trunk light, install a compatible replacement 2825 LED bulb. (Tip - If you install an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing the bulb, rotating it 180 degrees and pushing it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are polarized and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.) |
|
Push On Plastic Cover |
Push In Power Plug |
Gently push the
black plastic cover over the back side of the light housing. The cover should "click" securely into place. Push the power plug straight into the socket on the light housing. |
|
Re-Insert Wires First |
Pop In Retaining Clip |
Re-insert the wires
and the left (driver) side of the housing back into the opening first. Then gently snap in the retaining clip on the right side of the housing. |
|
Light Housing Replaced |
Test New Light Bulb |
The new light bulb
should have turned on immediately when you pushed in the power plug.
If the light bulb didn't turn on, re-activate the interior lights by pressing the "Unlock" or "Trunk Open" button on the fob. Be sure to record the bulb change in your vehicle's service records. For more,
