This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the "JL" fourth generation (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023) Jeep Wrangler SUV in removing and replacing the speakers in the roll bar (or "roll cage") which include tweeters, mid-range speakers and subwoofers.

Owners of other Jeep, Dodge and RAM vehicles such as the Grand Cherokee, Compass, Renegade, Gladiator, Cherokee, Grand Wagoneer, Wagoneer, Charger, Challenger, Durango, RAM 1500, Promaster, 2500 and 3500 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM speakers can be replaced with aftermarket speakers in the following sizes: Tweeters 2.5", Mid-Range 3.5" and Subwoofers 4.5".

Note - The speaker sizes may vary depending on the model year or trim level of your vehicle, the optional audio package selected and your region of the world. Please measure your old speakers and consult with a car audio professional before purchasing new speakers.

The tools needed to complete this procedure include a Torx T30 star bit screwdriver and a Torx T20 screwdriver.

If you'd like to avoid rattles and vibrations when you crank up the volume, I recommend applying sound deadening material such as Dynamat or Kilmat.

The first step is to sit inside the vehicle and then locate the plastic grille (cover) for the overhead sound bar speakers attached to the roll bar.

There are four silver metal bolts holding the speaker grille in place.

Loosen them in the counterclockwise direction with the Torx T-30 star bit screwdriver.

When you remove the fourth bolt, hold the cover in place with one hand.

Carefully remove the speaker cover and set it aside in a safe place.

Each side of the roll bar has three speakers including a 4.5" subwoofer, a 3.5" midrange speaker and a 2.5" tweeter speaker.

(Note - Your vehicle may have different speaker sizes depending on the model year, trim level, optional audio package or your region of the world.)
