This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the sixth generation 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and the revised or "face lifted" 2023 and 2024 Nissan Altima sedan in checking or changing a blown electrical fuse or replacing a faulty relay in either the engine bay electrical panels or the interior passenger compartment fuse block.

Owners of other Nissan, Infiniti or related Renault vehicles such as the Rogue, X-Trail, Note, Versa, Rogue Sport / Qashqai, Maxima, Sentra, Juke, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier, Titan, Quest, NV200, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60 and QX80 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

This 2020 Altima was equipped with Micro2 electrical fuses.

Earlier model year Altima models are equipped with low profile mini blade electrical fuses.

Be sure to check the type of fuse in your vehicle before purchasing new fuses.

No tools are needed to access the electrical panels.

If the black plastic fuse puller tool is missing from the interior electrical panel, you can use a pair of needle nose pliers with rubber insulated handles.

The first two steps are to open the hood and then move to the right (driver) side of the engine bay. Locate teh two black rectangular shaped fuse boxes.

For the small fuse box cover, gently pry back the plastic retaining clip on the left side to release it.

Lift out the electrical panel from the small box. This is the classic Nissan "upside down fuse panel".

Then move to the larger fuse box located closer to the headlight housing.

Gently push in the tab on the left side of the fuse box cover to release the retaining clip.

Hold Up To Light Bulb
Place the tool over the old fuse that you'd like to check or change.

Pull the old fuse straight out of the socket.

To check the condition of the old fuse, hold it up to a light bulb.

If the thin metal strip or band in the center of the old fuse appears to be burnt or broken, the fuse is "blown" and should be replaced.

If the thin metal wire in the translucent plastic middle of the old fuse appears to be intact, the old fuse is probably still in working condition.

Since new Micro2 electrical fuses are so inexpensive, I recommend replacing the fuse even if it appears to still be good.

Line Up Fuse Box Cover
Push a new Micro2 electrical fuse of the same amperage rating (e.g. 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A) into the socket.

If you need to replace an automotive relay or one of the large cartridge fuses, just wiggle them out of their socket and push a new one into place.

If you'd like to add a hard wired 12V power source for an automotive accessory such as a radar detector or a dashcam (dash camera), you'll need a digital multimeter to find a switched or always on fuse socket and an add-a-circuit fuse tap adapter.

When you are done replacing fuses, line up the large cover with the bigger fuse box.

Electrical Fuses Replaced
Replace the interior fuse panel cover.

Test the electrical component that you were having problems with such as the horn, A/C system, stereo system, power windows, power door locks, tail lights, headlights, interior lights, power driver's seat, etc.

If you are still having the same electrical problem, there might be a shorted out wire or the component itself needs to be replaced.
