This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the sixth generation 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and the revised or "face lifted" 2023 and 2024 Nissan Altima sedan in changing a burnt out cargo area light bulb in the trunk or upgrading it to a brighter LED unit.

Owners of other Nissan, Infiniti or related Renault vehicles such as the Rogue, X-Trail, Note, Versa, Rogue Sport / Qashqai, Maxima, Sentra, Juke, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Armada, Frontier, Titan, Quest, NV200, Q50, Q60, QX50, QX60 and QX80 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) trunk light light bulb was marked as part number 158.

If you'd like to have a brighter trunk light bulb that will last much longer before burning out, install a compatible replacement 158 LED unit.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small flat head screwdriver such as from a precision screwdriver set or a small plastic pry bar tool.

The first two steps are to open the trunk lid and locate the bulb housing on the "roof" of the trunk situated close to the torsion bars.

Use a small flat head screwdriver to gently pry back the retaining clip on the left (driver) side of the lens cover.

Swing Open Lens Cover
Pull Out Old Light Bulb
Empty Bulb Socket
Swing open the lens cover to access the bulb.

Warning - If the old bulb is still turned on or was recently illuminated, it will be too hot to handle.

Wear some thick gloves and pull the old light bulb straight out of the socket.

The original light bulb was marked as part number "158".

Push a new number 158 miniature wedge base light bulb straight into the socket.

If you'd like to have a brighter trunk light, install a compatible replacement 158 LED unit.

If necessary, you could install any other miniature wedge base light bulbs such as # 2825, 168, 194 or W5W.

Push In New Light Bulb
Close Lens Cover
Test New Light Bulb
Swing the lens cover closed and push on it to secure the retaining clip.

If the new light bulb didn't turn on immediately, press the "Unlock" button the key fob or close and re-open the trunk to activate the interior lights.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it from the socket, rotating it 180 degrees and pushing it back into the socket.
