This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the twelfth generation 2019 (hatchback), 2020, 2021, 2022 (and probably also the 2023, 2024 & 2025) Toyota Corolla sedan in changing a burnt out dome light bulb located in the housing attached to the headliner above the rear passenger seats.

Owners of other Toyota and Lexus vehicles such as the Camry, C-HR, Venza, Avalon, 86, Sienna, Tacoma, RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, IS 350, RX 350, UX 200, GS 350, IS 300 and ES 350 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The compatible replacement festoon style light bulb part number is DE3175 which is available from various manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, PIAA and Eiko.

If you'd like to have a brighter dome light that will also last much longer before burning out like the traditional incandescent bulb, install a DE3175 LED unit.

The only tool needed to access and replace the light bulb is a small plastic pry bar tool or a small flat head screwdriver such as from a precision screwdriver set.

The first step is to sit in the rear middle passenger seat.

Locate the two small notches on the front edge of the lens cover (close to the "Door / On" switch).

Insert the blade of your small plastic trim panel removal tool or the small flat head screwdriver into one of the two notches.

Remove Tabs - Rear
Very gently pry out the lens cover from the light housing.

Do not use excessive force. The lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

You may need to remove the screwdriver and re-insert it into the other small notch in order to fully remove the lens cover.

Swing down the front edge of the lens cover and pull out the two tabs on the rear edge.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

If the old light bulb was recently turned on, be careful when you remove it. The bulb might still be hot enough to burn your fingers.

Pull back the flexible metal electrical contact on the left (driver) side of the housing.

Remove the old light bulb from the socket.

The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) part number was Tosbhia 12V8WAL:91.

Install New Light Bulb
Insert the new number DE3175 festoon style light bulb into the socket.

Make sure that the bulb is securely attached in between the two electrical contacts.

I recommend testing the new light bulb before replacing the lens cover.

Slide the switch to the "ON" position.

Tip - If you installed an LED bulb and it doesn't work, try removing it from the socket, rotate it 180 degrees and then push it back into the socket. Some LED bulbs are "polarized" and will only work when the "+" positive and "-" negative electrical contacts are in the correct orientation.

Then gently snap in the retaining clips on the front edge of the lens cover.

Make sure that the lens cover is flush with the light housing at every edge.

It's best to leave the switch in the "Door" position so that the dome light will turn on any time you open the driver door or any passenger door.

Don't forget to write down the bulb change in your vehicle's service records.
