This automotive tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the revised 5th generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2016) Chrysler Town & Country in changing a burnt out license plate light bulb in the cargo tailgate.

Owners of related Chrysler Group minivan vehicles such as the Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Grand Voyager, Lancia Grand Voyager, Ram C/V Tradesman Cargo Van and the Volkswagen Routan may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement light bulb is part number 168 from various manufacturers such as Syvlania, GE, Philips, Eiko, Wagner, ACDelco and PIAA.

You may also use any other miniature wedge base 5 watt bulb such as the 2825, W5W or a compatible 168 LED bulb.

The only tool needed to access the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool used to pry out the light housing from the tailgate.

1/4 Turn Counter Clockwise
Remove Bulb Socket
The first step is to locate the white plastic release tab on the license plate light housing with the burnt out bulb.

Gently press the white plastic tab towards the housing to release the retaining clip.

Pull the housing out of the tailgate.

Rotate the light grey bulb socket 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull it straight out of the housing.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new # 168 bulb.

If necessary you can use any other miniature wedge base bulbs such as the # 194, W5W, 2825 or a compatible LED unit.

Re-insert the socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Test New License Plate Bulb
Re-insert the left side first (or the side opposite the retaining clip) and then pop in the white plastic clip on the right side.

Test the new license plate light bulb by pressing the "Unlock" button on the key fob or turning on the headlights.
