This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 1st generation (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Dodge Journey SUV in changing a burnt out overhead map light bulb or replacing them both with brighter LED units.

Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge and RAM vehicles with similar map light housings such as the Town & Country, 300, 200, Avenger, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Grand Caravan, Ram C/V Tradesman and 1500 may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement bulb is part number 578 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, Eiko, GE and PIAA.

The only tool needed to access the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry open the hinged lens cover.

Swing Open Hinged Cover
Map Light Bulbs Exposed
Pull Out Old Map Light Bulb
Locate the small notch at the middle of the left (driver) side of the translucent lens cover.

Insert the blade of your small flathead screwdriver in to the notch and gently pry open the lens cover.

Swing the hinged lens cover open to the right (passenger side).

Grasp the old map light bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

If you want a direct replacement traditional incandescent bulb, buy the Sylvania 578 light bulb.

Or there are brighter 578 LED options available.
