This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the "new" Type 312 (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015) Fiat 500 hatchback car in changing a burnt out LED license plate light bulb assembly in the tailgate door.

Replacement LED light bulb assemblies with their part number are as follows: Left Side # 68212035AA and Right Side # 68212034AA.

The only tool needed to replace the bulbs is a small flathead screwdriver.

Remove Light Assembly
Pry Back Retaining Clips
Light Housing Disconnected
Press in the small black plastic release tab on the outer edge of the license plate light bulb housing with the small flathead screwdriver.

Pull the housing out of the tailgate door.

Gently pry back the retaining clips on either side of the electrical connector before sliding the power plug straight out of its socket.

(On the older Fiat 500 models, you may need to cut the wires on the old housing in order to install the newer style license plate light assembly.)

Push On Power Plug
Re-Insert Housing
Pop In Retaining Clip
Push the power plug straight in to the socket on the new license plate light.

Re-insert the inner edge of the housing in first and then gently snap in the retaining clip on the outer edge.
