The Florida
Renaissance Festival is a fun, educational, and family friendly event
that takes place each year at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach. We attended the 2008 Florida "Ren-Fest" which was the 16th annual occurrence of this event and also our first time at any type of Renaissance faire. The 2008 Florida Renaissance Festival took place on every weekend from February 9th to March 9th and also one school day which was 2/18/08. Visitors were welcome in "Playhaven Village", which was set in the 16th century, from 10am to 6pm during every day of the festival. The price of admission for one day was $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $7 for students, and free for children aged 6 to 12. |

As we walked around the Florida Renaissance Festival we noticed that there were many roaming performers wearing elaborate costumes. Just a few that I saw included pirates, wizards, witches, magicians, beggars, wenches, sword fighters, minstrels, court jesters, knights, squires, and a variety of medieval townspeople. |

Over in the Royal Kitchen area of the Florida Renaissance Festival, there was a surprisingly large selection of food choices. Just a few of the tasty options included turkey legs, Italian sausages, pizza, pasta, arepas, pinchos, gyros, funnel cakes, hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries, soft serve ice cream, roast pork, shis-k-bobs, roasted corn cobs, blooming onions, chocolate cake, bangers & mash, fish 'n chips, lasagna, strombolis, and meat pies. If that wasn't enough, there was also the option to join the King's Feast in the Royal Feast Hall for a 5 course banquet with live entertainment and free souvenirs.

The Florida Renaissance Festival is a great place to take your children since they have a special area set aside for them called The Kid's Kingdom that has rides and kid sized castles. There was also a dragon jousting ride, a swinging barrel ride, a human powered carrousel swing ride, Da Vinci's Hurlinator centrifugal force ride, and a giant rocking horse ride.

We had a really good time at the Florida Renaissance Festival and we plan on going back next year in 2009 for the 17th annual event. If you live in Palm Beach or Broward County, I highly recommend a visit. There will also be an additional Florida Renaissance Festival to be held in Miami-Dade County in 2009 for the three weekends between March 21st to April 5th. |
