This automotive "how-to" guide was specifically written to assist owners of the first generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & possibly the 2015) GM Chevrolet Cruze in replacing a burnt out overhead dome light bulb.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Spark, Sonic, Volt, Malibu, Camaro, Corvette, Impala, Equinox, Traverse, Suburban, Tahoe, Avalanche, Colorado, Silverado, Express, Cadillac ATS, XTS, CTS, SRX, Escalade, Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore, GMC Sierra, Terrain, Acadia, Yukon and Savana may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

A replacement dome light bulb is part number 2825 from manufacturers such as Sylvania, GE, Eiko and PIAA.

If necessary, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulb such as the # 168, 175, 194, W5W or an LED.

The only tool needed to change the dome light bulb is a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry bar tool used to pry out the plastic lens cover.

Pull Out Old Dome Bulb
To avoid scratching the plastic surfaces, you may choose to wrap the tip of the flathead screwdriver with a thin micro fiber cloth.

Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in between the translucent plastic lens cover and the edge of the light housing.

Gently pry out the lens cover. You may need to re-insert the screwdriver at another edge to remove the cover. Do not use excessive force, the lens cover should pop out relatively easily.

Set the lens cover aside in a safe place.

Grasp the old bulb with your thumb and forefinger before pulling it straight out of the socket.

If you have trouble gripping the bulb, try putting on a latex rubber glove.

Push a new number 2825 bulb straight in to the socket.

If you can't find a replacement number 2825 bulb, you may also use any other miniature wedge base bulb such as the number 168, 175, 194, W5W or a compatible LED unit.
